4-channel video installation, work-in-progress

Recorded at and around the world’s first industrial rare-earth element mine in the Mojave Desert, the installation «gREEn new deals or(e) scars» investigates contemporary material extraction and energy production paradigms that have been promoted for historical media technology, and, currently, for a ‹green› future. The Mountain Pass Mine has a longstanding history: Discovered during research on the atomic bomb, the mine has experienced financial success and loss, leak of nuclear material and attempts to bury them, a reopening in 2016, and its subsequent reactivation. It is located in a peculiar region filled with old mines, a protected dry lake, and large-scale renewable energy plants. «gREEn new deals or(e) scars» imagines a time when the elements mined there are not abundant anymore, a time when lenses, cameras and microphones only work halfway.
